There are two words that are continuously used in Construction. Reworks and renovation.
One is you spending a lot of money upfront during and after a construction to rectify the mistakes in your ongoing and completed home.
The later is you, in future making sure your house looks better as to the current styles and your current needs.
Reworks also means you spending a lot of money unnecessarily without a solid plan or idea and which can be avoided.
Renovation is you planning, budgeting it and is part of your expansion or revamping process.
Therefore we will discuss renovation in another article, but why did I compare the two here, because you think rework and renovation are the same. It is not!
The Devil in the title is Reworks.
Why I call it the Devil?
It ruins your dream home, loses your peace of mind, empty your pockets and it just kills your love for your space.
You will hate your home and you will say it, why can’t I just get over with it!
Reworks in Construction happens because of several reasons.
Try to avoid these and you get to defeat the Devil.
You can’t defeat it midway, you have to stop it in the beginning.
1. Poor planning and alignment
Your plan should incorporate all design features in a clear and concise manner which is simply put and readable to all people involved in the construction. It should also align with all the different parts of the building before the construction drawings are issued to the site, i.e., the HVAC and electrical drawing should match up with the structural drawings. The interior detailing should match up with the slab conducting drawings etc.
2. Failing to incorporate technologies
Implementing technology tools like BIM (Building Information Model) or VR (Virtual Reality) can be very powerful in avoiding reworks for your home.
BIM incorporates all levels of building planning; it will make sure all the levels of planning are integrated into one. This helps to make a 3D model of the completed building to check for errors or overlaps.
You create your dream home in a virtual world using the Virtual Reality technology and in other words it lets you understand your space as you have envisioned in the real world.
3. Lack of communication with your architect
As client, you have the responsibility to clearly tell your architect or engineer about what your requirements are, and should be able to critique and correct the plan and design as per your needs and make sure it stays within your budget.
4. Lack of clarity among workers
The workers building your dream home, should be skilled and are able to clearly understand and communicate with their supervisors and will have to talk about any problems or doubts they may get during construction.
5. Ineffective work caused by short deadlines
Short deadlines or faulty timelines are a problem. It may cause people to work faster just to meet the deadline and that will cause ineffective or sloppy work.
It affects your time and money and you stand to lose both.
6. Not doing quality control checks

7. Failing to use software
In the construction industry, monitoring the progress of your work is essential. Why is that!
By using proper project construction and tracking software, you can have real-time project tracking, quality monitoring, and project control, etc; thus keeping you updated on your timelines, brand of materials used on site and money spend.
